The Art of kani Shawl weaving
The Kani shawl is a timeless masterpiece of Kashmiri craftsmanship, a centuries-old art form that has been lovingly revived to preserve its unique heritage.
The word Kani translates to “Stick” in English. This stick is used to weave these exquisite shawls. What makes a Kani shawl unique is the intricate weaving process unlike conventional weaving. Kani shawls are woven using coded patterns known as “Talim” which guides the artisan to weave the design. It can take anywhere between 6 months to a year and sometimes even more to complete a single Kani shawl.
Kani shawls are a symbol of Kashmiri cultural heritage. At Kashmir Weaves, we are proud to be part of this legacy and are committed to promoting this extraordinary tradition of bringing you a piece of Kashmir history with every Kani Shawl.
