The warmth of fine Pashmina

The word Pashmina is derived from the Arabic word “Pashm” which means “wool”. In India, the Pashmina wool is derived from Changthangi goats found only in the upper altitudes of Ladakh region. These goats naturally shed their coat in spring which is collected to prepare Pashmina thread.

Pashmina cloth has been used to make stoles, shawls and other clothing items since centuries. It gained prominence during the Mughal era when Pashmina products would be exclusively worn by the members of royal families and were bestowed as gifts and honour. Beyond India, owing to its warmth, softness and richness, Pashmina, or “cashmere” as it is known outside India, has been loved across Iran, England and France!

At Kashmir Weaves, we take pride in sourcing the finest Pashmina in a sustainable manner. Our products have been regularly tested at government labs in Srinagar and found to be of authentic and high quality!
